Hello.  My name is Christian.  I am an actor and I am so grateful to be one.

But...there are certain things about this career that I am afraid to admit.  Acting is hard, but I think being an actor/actress is even more difficult.

I am afraid to admit that I am a grown-ass person who still manages to get his feelings hurt by auditions, rejection and not booking things.  That I consciously know it is imperative for me to be a better ally to my under-represented actor/actress friends, but I feel debilitated as how to even begin.  That things I learned in grad school just a few short years ago often get lost in the ether because sometimes the only acting I get to do is 1.5 pages of rapid dialogue in a small room for a camera (by which I am still humbled).  That I do not know how to fully be excited for a friend's success, without getting down on myself because maybe my achievements do not measure up yet.   And don't even get me started on how, despite being 25% Japanese, I whitewash myself because it just makes things easier.

The list goes on...

I would love to help change the way we talk about the struggles and fears we face in this industry.  To have an open and honest conversation about race, gender, orientation, body image, age, sex and how those factor into everything we do, from casting to auditions to the material itself.  To help keep our craft sharp by providing teacher interviews/conversations for those of us who do not have the time or money to constantly attend classes.  To inform about financial sustainability, student loan payments and flexible day job resources from our collective network.  I don't really know what this can or will turn into, but these are my hopes.  We will have a diverse guest list that includes actors, directors, designers, writers, teachers, union officials, casting directors, agents and managers.

Please do take a listen, and reach out to cureforthecommonactor@gmail.com or in the Contact Us section at anytime with comments, suggestions, potential guest nominations, complaints, topics you'd like to be discussed or questions you would like asked.  I'd love for this to be a collaboration, so please do let me know your thoughts early and often.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I hope you enjoy our conversations.
